Standard Grade Craft & Design - Final project materials - Redwood dressed

Redwood(see Pine) is a general name for a type of pine. It should not be confused with the California Redwood which is actually a Sequoia. The Redwood refered to in this country is Scots Pine and is generally imported from Sweden and Finland. Dressed refers to the fact that the timber has been planed - that is not just "off the saw".

Redwood is used for general construction, furniture and joinery.

Timber suppliers will normally stock lengths of timber about 4 to 5 metres in length. They will normally sell full lengths (not smaller parts).

Big DIY stores are more likely to sell shorter lengths but expect to pay considerably more.
